Dr Sami Karjalainen is a prizewinning naturalist, writer and photographer living in Finland. He has gained a State Award for Public Information and has been a finalist in the Fotofinlandia competition that covers all areas of photographic art. The latest international achievements include awards in GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year 2013 & 2014 and IFWP International Federation of Wildlife Photography 2013.
Dragonflies have been his main subject since 1991 and he has a special interest in other aquatic insects and grasshoppers also. Currently he is active with other insect groups also. His macro photography methods include high-speed photography of insects in flight and focus stacking in the field and in the studio.
